www.soundsoftheundergroundtour.comwww.digital-noise.net/fullnews.phpTell me about these bands. I've heard you guys mention a couple, and a few stick out as ones I'm not interested in, but I have no idea of about half of them. This show is supposed to be about $27 dollars a ticket, which seems pretty fair for 18 bands. GWAR finally got their festival show. Lamb of God headlining? Worth checking out?

the only band on that list i like is high on fire, which sounds like a motorhead/venom influenced stoner/doom/thrash band. madball's first 7" is great, but that was over 15 years ago and they've never really hit that level again.

The bands I like on that tour: GWAR, Clutch, The Red Chord, Opeth, and Devil Driver. I'd gladly pay $27 just for those first three alone. The rest range anywhere from "eh" to "blah".
Skin Splitter's big into a lot of those bands.

I'm having trouble reading the dark flyer which is why I'm glad you provided another link. My opinions on what I can see from your second link:
Poison The Well: Their first album was decent. Now they just suck.
Opeth: Slow drony opera death metal horse shit.
Unearth: 100% generic metalcore. But not bad.
From Autumn to Ashes: 100% generic...shit.
Norma Jean: I actually saw part of this band's set once. I walked out halfway through it because they were using strobe lights and overhead projectors to distract the crowd from how bad they sucked.
Every Time I Die: Not my bag of chips from what I remember.
Throwdown: Painstakingly average.
High on Fire: Boring...
A Life Once Lost: Most excellent, even if it is obvious they're a bunch of Christians.
Madball: Big thumbs down.
The Red Chord: Fantastic. I enjoy this band quite a bit.
Edited because I realized I used the phrase "most excellent" twice

I don't think I've ever heard Venom before. I remember hearing Motorhead a couple years ago and thinking they were boring, but I'd have to listen to them again to form a real opinion.

Motorhead has released a few duds, but albums like Ace Of Spades, Rock & Roll, and 1918 are some of the most un-boring tunes you'll ever hear.

I'd say Venom and Motorhead are staples. Required listening just for the simple fact that they were pioneers of the genre.
Old Venom is great. Certainly not the most technical or even talented bunch, but what they did for the sound of metal during the early '80's was a savior for me from the likes of American hair bands that were dominating the scene. Last time I had heard about their new releases, they were on some anti-drug campaign, and were definitley falling fast. The first albums are classic.
Motorhead to me was always a band that had a sound that needed to be there, but that no one else was doing. I hadn't listened to a lot of it, as it did seem straight forward and boring. Simple rock and roll, without the polish. Shit, by the time I was in high school, everybody had on their Fastway shirts because Eddie Clark had made a splash on MTV. Buying in to the whole Quiet Riot scene that was so horrible back then. But Motorhead had a dirty, in your face style that I almost missed out on, until I realized their value and contribution to everything else that was going on.
Venom and Motorhead are up there with the Ramones to me. Bands that were ahead of their time and being so, unrecognized by the turd swilling masses. Founders of music today, that I hadn't quite appreciated until it was almost too late. And thanks, by the way, for the input on the bands on that tour.

Coincidentally, I don't like the Ramones either.
Just because a band was first doesn't mean they're the best. You don't turn in a rough draft of a paper and call it your final product.

Yeah, meant 1916. Being a Red Sox fan, 1918 tends to slip out on occassion.

the greatness of the ramones is completely independent of their historical status. we are now enemies and will fight.

what does the who have to do with anything?
ps the who sucks. OVERRATED. though i will admit live at leeds is a great live album. pretty much every 60s "classic rock' band slays the who in my opinion. then the ramones slay all of them (mostly ;D)

keith moon was amazing, otherwise i have no use for the who. their gay output far outweighs their cool output.
