Well, you've got to at least attempt some conversation with me before you go asking for my phone number! Otherwise I'm just going to think the girl's a shallow whore or something. THE BIGGER THE WHORE THE BETTER. WHEN YOU GET TO MY AGE (41) YOU'LL TAKE ANY ASS YOU CAN GET, EXCEPT SOME DUDES.

Whatever the opposite of straight edge is, that's what I am. "Normal", I think they call it. Instead of not trusting myself with something like beer, I let myself decide what is an acceptable amount to drink in a given situation.
Anyway, and not that I've ever really researched straight edge or anything, but there's one thing I just don't understand...why is it that these sxe people insist that they do what they do because they don't like the idea of being controlled by something, yet they envelop this lifestyle without taking a look at their own life and evaluating what it is they could potentially have a problem with.
For instance, straight edge people will refuse to participate in premiscuous sex because they don't want to become controlled by lust...but with if some straight edge guy doesn't have this problem. Instead, he sits all day and dreams about ice cream which interferes with his ability to become productive. Wouldn't it make more sense for him to give up ice cream instead of a little nookie?
It just seems odd to me that these people don't want to be controlled, yet they let a set of impersonal rules control them. It seems more like a case of these kids just want something to be a part of, which is why the more militant groups become so violent around people that, say, eat meat. I probably just don't understand, but if somebody could explain it that would be cool.
EDIT: Horatio, are you just kidding or are you actually 41? I thought you were like 30 or something.

shev you pretty much got it right on. like any form of "rebellion" against rules/values, given time the rebellion establishes its own set of rules/values.

Well, I guess I should explain myself better instead of leaving ellipses. This is in reply to what Shevy had to say.
First off, I do not consider myself militant by any means. Sure, none of my friends really do any of that stuff, but I talk to people who do stuff like drink and smoke and when they tell me their tales of getting wasted, I just brush it off and keep the conversation going. The reason I don't like to do it is for the same reason everyone else seems to love it so much...it changes your state of mind. I hear these people tell their stories of how they got extremely bombed and puked everywhere and couldn't even stand up or form a coherent sentence...but why would you want that? Also, why would you want to think your hands were melting just because you smoked pot(Then again, the guy I talked to who told me this also did some other drugs...)? However, all my arguments are against people who do it in excess...still, even if I was at some social situation and I had a drink or two, then I started talking to some girl and my inhibitions were lowered, what would I have to do next? Have a drink or two every time I talked to this girl? Because I'm a nervous panicky type. I can't just keep things going steadily and play it cool because I'm an autistic, depressed maniac.
As far as sex goes, I'm not a "save it for marriage" kind of guy but I'd rather be in a relationship and doing it than just hooking up with random people.
And I'm practically a carnivore, so I have nothing to discuss there.

Millitant people=assholes
I have a lot of vegetarian/vegan/straight edge friends who are the nicest people you would ever meet. However, there are always people who have to ruin the situation/push their beliefs.
I was hanging out with a firend and we went to see his girlfriend play volleyball. Anways, this other kid came along, and he would not shut up about me smoking. I didn't smoke in the kids car or breath smoke in his face but he would not shut up. Dick
the funny part is I found out later is the second kid turned out to be a backstabbing asshole, who, believe it or not, smokes and drinks ;D
