Carry the Torch was a band that me and my friends (basically, Third Death, but switched around. Me on bass, Buddy on drums, Dan on guitar, and Matt from Verse on vox) started a few years ago. I dropped it because I didn't have equipment, and they played a few shows here and there, but stopped playing over a year ago. Anyway, we're probably gonna do a little set at the next Third Death show. I was talking to Lamp about it, and I told him I'd post a few tracks, so here they are! 65.18.189.111/gallery/albums/album02/07_AudioTrack_07.mp365.18.189.111/gallery/albums/album02/02_AudioTrack_02.mp365.18.189.111/gallery/albums/album02/08_AudioTrack_08.mp3Enjoy!!!!!!

This is some cool stuff. I'll save these tracks to my computer when I get home and listen to them more on a stereo that doesn't suck.

Hell yeah Scoots. We have written 2 more new songs just since I've been back. We want to get a couple more new ones, then go play More Core to get a decent, free recording. The latest demo (the one I posted a few songs from here) is going to get remixed soon. I talked to the kid that's doing it, and it's pretty much just up to him to give us a time. But yeah, we are definitely staying together. A record this summer would be awesome. Max from 625 was interested too, he wanted to hear our new recording but we didn't want to send it out sounding like it does. I don't know how "joint" releases work, or if it's easier/cheaper that way. We're not picky, we would just love to have a record for the summer (or anytime, really. Again, not picky). Let me know what you want to do, and I'll pass it on to the rest of the guys! I really really appreciate it man!

honestly, i'd rather do it myself just based on the premise that the less opinions involved the smoother it will run, but i guess that's a decision you guys would have to make. like i said to buddy when i first approached him about it, so much generic shit get pressed every week (and not for nothin, but 625 is pretty guilty of this) i would only want to put out something that i thought was totally killer musically and then put together a totally killer package for the record.

Wait a second...Scoots is in a band?
Or working for a label?
Or...what's the deal with that.

I have no doubts in you, man. Your music tastes are great, and your artistic capabilities are awesome. I love the idea of having it released on a local DIY label. I'm sure all the guys would agree. I just need to talk to them, and then we need to figure out what next? Use current recordings? Re-record? None of us have actually had a record pressed for any of our bands before, so it's all new to us.

i'm not in a band or "working for a label", i'd just pay the money to get the record pressed and take care of what needs taking care of (which is really all a "label" is anyway).
i talked to buddy awhile back about the recording. the 2nd demo sounded really good but could definitely use a little kick in the ass. the drums in particular sound like empty gallon milk jugs.
also, please record that cover of wasted, i love that song (both versions) so fucking much.

By second demo, you mean the 17 track one? I'm not sure if the drums sounding bad was due to the recording, or due to our incredibley horrible drum set lol. We actually just had a discussion last night at practice about how empty the drums sound by themselves. And sure, we'll record the Pearl Jam cover...

Well, there's two things. One, is that like I said, our drums aren't the greatest set, and Dan is really particular about playing on them heh. And the other thing is that we record live... all together. It's really hard to do everything seperately when you're playing that fast, with all the weird stops, and timings. So, since we recorded live, you don't have as much control over the drum mix as you normall would. *shrug* Ok, wait.. 3 things. The third thing is that the kid that recorded us is just that... a kid. He did it on protools on his MAC, and has only recorded a handful of stuff. So, perhaps with someone more knowledgeable, it could have come out better. I wonder if he still has the protools version of that demo.... hmm...

Hey, just out of curiosity, do you have the rest of this demo?
I've been wanting to hear it.

Hey, Derek sent me the zip file for this demo so I've been listening to this. It's real good stuff. Think of Third Death without the skating image, and with deeper vocals and instrument tones. You've got Carry The Torch.

yeah, we sent demos out to a bunch of people a while back. max was interested, but wanted to hear more shit. but whats better than releasing locally anyway? nothing. we get a lot of requests (even as of recently) of people wanting to do splits. i really hope the split with tone deaf works out. not only would it get our shit out in japan, but i also saw them on some top 10 lists in short fast + loud zine. we got a review in there too, it was pretty sweet.
and as far as carry the torch, i think it's done. however, third death is considering doing a side project with us all switching instruments. if it happens, you can bet it will be sweet.

no disrespect cause i think third d is great obviously, but 625 is really kind of a ghetto label. i actually think being on 625 might HURT rather than help them, had they gone that route.

the only beef i have with the label (as i am pretty in the dark with stuff like this) is that just saying "625" sets most kids into a scenester frenzy. thats definitely not the kind of attention we're looking for.
