new album is an easy A for me. perfectly recorded rawness. punk/metal/noise hybrid as best exemplified for me by 80s jap punks like gastunk or gism. seriously, the shredding guitar leads on this (and the too old too cold ep) have reminded me more of gism than any jap band who's tried to ape that sound for the last 20+ years.
there's a pressing error on the vinyl though, most copies have a really annoying level of static running though them. i finally wrote to peaceville and they sent me a replacement.

The main thing holding me back from giving their new one an A was the way it ages under repeated listens. Some songs like "Graveyard Slut" and "Too Old, Too Cold" will never become boring, but ultimately some of the material tends to melt into background noise once you start getting comfortable with it. A minor flaw on a good album.

So this isn't a waste of time/money album like most Black Metal?

Most black metal is shit, but the premium stuff is definitely worth buying.

i think it's perfect. black metal in the same sense deathcrush is, not de mysteriis (though i love that one too). new crow lp on prank has a similar sound maybe, though it is def more firmly entrenched in hardcore punk with brilliant metal touchs, rather than the other way around. here's the album if you want to check it out: www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=6ED7449E05608256these are tied for best album of '06 for me so far.
