Check this outThey have a slew of classic metal albums that you can listen to. Only problem is they're in ram format, so you're going to have to use Real Player. Regardless, it's still free and a great way to listen to that certain album you never got around to picking up 15 - 20 years ago! Also, if anybody knows a way to actually download these songs and convert them to either mp3 or wav format, I'd love to know.

I FIRST STUMBLED ACROSS THIS SITE BACK IN 2002. I RECALL LISTENING TO BATTLEAXE'S 'POWER FROM THE UNIVERSE' AND REVIEWING IT STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE.

IT HAS TO BE SAID THAT SOME OF THIS METAL IS CERTAINLY THE WORST EVER HEARD IN THE GENRE, IN A GOOD WAY OF COURSE.

I would strongly recommend DBC's debut if you never picked it up or hadn't heard it. One of my favorite tapes from back in the day. The 20 kbs stream just doesn't do it justice.

I've been checking out a few obscure bands he has listend...and some I've found have absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Ripper, for instance, is one of the worst things I have ever fucking heard. i played that y&t record for some friends and they couldn't even make it through 2 whole songs (i like this record a lot actually). whn i said you liked it better than killers they said you must be brain damaged (i agree on this point). dude's voice kinda reminds me of cher's at times.

IT'S A DIFFERENT KIND OF METAL. U.S. METAL IN THE EARLY 80'S WAS FAR REMOVED FROM ENGLISH METAL. THEY BOTH HAD VARIED SOUNDS. BUT MAN THE LIKES OF 'HURRICANE' CANNOT BE DENIED. I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU COULD NOT LIKE THAT TO BE HONEST. DAVE MENKETTI IS A LEGEND. BUT I WAS FOOLISH TO SAY I LIKED IT MORE THAN 'KILLERS' AS I LIKE BOTH EQUALLY. |

i like this record a lot actually. the guys i was playing this for have VERY wide tastes, especially in metal. they are into plenty of stuff that is even less 'metal' than this (cactus, bang, captain beyond, etc etc). i dunno bud. |

ACTUALLY I MEANT TO SAY 'HOW THEY COULD NOT LIKE IT I DON'T KNOW'. I USED TO THINK BANDS LIKE BANG AND CACTUS WERE ESSENTIAL, MUST HEAR 70'S METAL, BUT ONCE I HEARD THEM THEY PALED NEXT TO THE WHO OR DEEP PURPLE, SHOWING INDEED WHY THEY WERE OBSCURE. EVEN A BAND LIKE DUST BECAME OBSOLETE WHEN MONTROSE HIT THE SCENE. |

i totally think bang IS essential if you like that style of music AT ALL. the harder songs are the best of 70s proto-metal. cactus sucks. dust has like 2 great songs and the rest is shit, literally.
