You know what i like about you, dangerzone? You have these really distinct tastes in music and aren't afraid to go against the flow to defend them. HOWEVER! I totally disagree with you on this one. While I do like Led Zep, In Through The Out Door, with the shining exception of In The Evening, is nothing but a synth-driven poppy turd. Musically unfulfilling, charismatically empty, and completely lacking inspiration. The only reasons to like Carouselambra is if you either: a. Dig long songs. b. Base your appreciation of a song on the bass lines. c. Suck.
It just sounds all chopped together, interrupting Zep's knack for letting a song flow. It's different, but in Zep's case, different isn't better. Drumming is ho-hum, guitars are nothing special, and the vocals work too fast for the song's own good.

I AGREE THE ALBUM IS A BUST AND BY FAR ZEPPELINS WORST. BUT THIS TRACK IN PARTICULAR WORKS FOR ME THROUGH THE ABUNDANCE OF SYNTHESIZER TWISTS. THERE ARE SOME INTERESTING GUITAR LINES FROM OLD JIMMY THAT REMIND ME OF VAN HALEN. ON THE WHOLE THIS ALBUM ISN'T EVEN HARD ROCK. WHY THEY DIDN'T INCLUDE THE TRACKS FROM 'CODA' ARE A MYSTERY. 'HOT DOG' IS THEIR BIGGEST EMBARRASSMENT EVER. THEIR FLIRTATION WITH KEYBOARDS WAS AMATEURISH AT BEST, SOUNDING DATED EVEN FOR 79. COMPARED TO HOW THE WHO WERE USING THEM IN 1971 ZEPPELIN WERE A JOKE. ACTUALLY I MIGHT REVIEW THIS ALBUM FOR A LAUGH.

While I would never stoop so low as to agree with dangerzone, I do think this track is a standout. Even though I think prog rock is comical, and this song is nothing if not prog. It still rules. And I think it's especially interesting because it shows where the band would have gone if they had continued.
It's a vastly underrated song, anyway, and what the hell is wrong with basing your appreciation of a song on the bass line? Bass players do it all the time.

I love the sound of bass, dude. A bass solo actually pumps me up more than most guitar solo's.

and what the hell is wrong with basing your appreciation of a song on the bass line? Bass players do it all the time. For somebody that listens to a song for the bass, then nothing is wrong with it. Personally, I like to listen to a song as a whole and appreciate it for what it is, not what one instrument can accomplish during it.

But if nobody ever agrees with you on anything, how can you raise an army of high and mighty jackasses as pompous and arrogant as yourself to take over the world with?
