What's up guys, it's Derek, guitarist for Third Death. I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be returning home this week, and hopefully Third Death will be actively playing shows in Providence and the surrounding area again very soon! We got 6 more songs recorded, but I think the mix needs a little work. Again, we just went for the cheapest recording we can get so it's nothing spectacular, but you get the point. I want to thank Scoots for giving us lots of good press and support, and look out for us! I'll make sure to check this board often!

Ha! You're the 100th member too! Good work.
Well, Scoots isn't the only Rhode Island staff member here, I am too...so, uh...I'll do what I can.
Do you guys have mp3s? I have heard of your band and what it sounds like before.

I like this stuff. It's like a mix of old punk and modern hardcore. The mix didn't sound like there were any problems to me on the newer stuff either.

Thanks for the welcome!
Yeah, we don't really know how to "classify" ourselves. Some people have said it's "crossover", I dunno. We just say "it's fast". The mix on the newer stuff seems to need more guitar, and less crash cymbal, no? I dunno, I play the guitar, and there are parts where I can barely make out what I'm playing because the crash is so loud over it. It seems like the guitar backs the bass, instead of the other way around.

It sounds faster than the old crossover stuff of the 80s. It's also a lot shorter too. But that's fine, I like short songs. Sometimes you just don't have much to play. Not to mention I have a four second attention span anyway, so you know.
But if one thing's for sure, speed's a big bonus in my book.
And after listening to this new stuff again, I'm starting to see what you mean about the guitar backing the bass...I guess it does need a little work, but there's good tone on both instruments to say something good.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the good words! That was the thing I missed the most about being away from home was the band. I'm real excited to start writing new stuff, and playing live again. Although, Savannah (where I am right now) has a real good local scene for punk/metal stuff. I only went to a few shows while I was down here, but I was never disappointed.
Municipal Waste (Richmond, VA) fucking RULE! I saw them at a free outdoor show here, and they blew me away. Their CD is great... Check them out if you haven't already. A band from right here in Savannah that's alright is Kylesa. Kind of experimental progressive metal stuff. Femal and male vocals. Who else... Two Days Of Freedom, some thrash, some heavy rock. Chronicle A.D. Good stuff down here.

I also dig the big bass sound, but not so much it detracts from the guitar work. 'Tis good shit. The vocals really add a distinct Hirax-style sound to it without introducing some of the power metal element.

Buddy's vocals definitely give the band an even more unique sound. Although, on the new recording, he laid down the vocals while getting over a throat thing, so on some songs they sound a little strained. I don't really mind that as much as the musical issues. I already talked to the kid that recorded/mixed it, and he said no problem, he'd do it again. I just gotta get home first. Again, thanks for the compliments. It means a lot.

I'll be sure to check out that other stuff.

Not sure about Kylesa playing in Providence. I know that when I saw them here, they had just returned from a big tour. If they play Providence, I'll definitely check it out.
I emailed municipal waste about trying to get them into RI sometime this summer, but no reply as of now. I know they are touring a lot lately, so hopefully either they're already planning on coming to the northeast, or they'll have a break long enough to make it up. I video taped their whole set from here, and it makes me want to see them in a Providence club/space so bad. I hear they got a great response from the Chicago fest, so maybe we'll hear a lot more about them in the future.
Speaking of which, anybody have any Hit Me Back mp3's? My friend who was at the fest said they were awesome, but I've yet to hear them.

lol. Has he said that at a show or somethin?
There were a couple little jams that we've done at practice that he really wanted us to throw down (one was all surf-rock-ish, the other was just a powerful melodic jam) but the dude that recorded us really rushed us.. oh well. I'm stoked on the new stuff too, I just want it to get remixed. I can't wait to play shooooows!!!!!!!!!

yeah, you don't remember the last show you guys played at redrum he said that... everyone kinda looked around nervous until you started playing, then everyone was singing along by the end, it was great.
(for anyone who wasn't there, the song was "wasted" by circle jerks/black flag)

lol Yeah, you never know what he'll say... he says weird shit so often, it all kind of blends together I had a lot of fun at that show. Couldn't feel my fingers, and couldn't hear the drums, but it was a blast!
