i hear where you're coming from lamp, but any absolutes on any side of the argument should be avoided imo. like i HATED it when hetfield started to acutally "sing" in metallica, but certainly danzig is a great singer and i love that guy's voice. probably 80% of what i listen to doesn't qualify as "singing" but the good stuff is still good. listen to some old doo woop like the flamingoes, that shit will melt your brain. the singing is like a hallucinagenic drug, for real.

Well, I think it all has to do with genre. I just don't like hearing singing in heavy music because it just doesn't fit. I listen to my share of rockabilly and whatnot, and I like bluegrass. It never bothered me there.

Hmmm... everyone to their own I suppose. I just find constant screaming to be rather mundane. If you listen to the newer In Flames stuff, that's my favourite type of vocals... what would you consider it? And I'm guessing that you guys don't like bands like Rhapsody, Nightwish, Kamelot, Stratovarius, etc... then?

I don't know. I've heard of Nightwish. But I can't say I've actually heard any of those bands.
We all have our own little tastes here, nothing is really uniform. We all tend to specialize in different things.

You should check out more of Horatio's reviews. He's not into those bands you listed to the best of my knowledge, but he seems to be more into clean vocals.
Personally, I think vocals are overrated. If it came down to either having a vocalist or another instrument, I'll take the instrument every time. I rarely read lyrics and I don't sing along. Scream, growl, or sing it clean...I really don't care so long as the vocals aren't overpowering/annoying.
