is this new or has it been on for awhile? there was like an hour long show on saturday called ufc unleashed, and after that there was like a THREE HOUR LONG live show. pretty sweet. i've never followed mma since i'm too cheap to buy ppv/dvds, but i've always dug it when i've had a chance to see it. pretty psyched to see it on free tv now.

Yeah, I was watching that, too. Spike TV is also going to be picking up NWA for Saturday nights, so between NWA and UFC, I'm fucking psyched.

did you see that match on the earlier show between salaverry and that blonde cut dude? blonde dude was totally running things, then he was diving on top of salaverry (who was on his back), salaverry kicks him in the face and then locked on a sweet submission for the win, it was a great battle.

Well, WWE has been utterly terrible for some time now, but NWA is some very cool stuff. Not so much emphasis on ten minute long promo's, and they're not afraid to show a little speed and shed a little blood in the ring.
Over all I do like UFC above all that fixed results bullshit. If Spike picked up K-1 Kickboxing, the trifecta would be complete.

I have yet to see Salaveery fight, but I hear he's a fucking monster in the octagon. I did catch the Giddeon Ray vs. Mike Swick match, which resulted in a 22 second KO by Swick. That shocked me since Ray is certainly not a pushover. Plus I saw the Leben vs. Cote match. You have to love Chris Leben's style. The guy loves to fight and shows great respect to those that give him a run for his money. He's definitely one of my favorite fighters.

HOW GAY WAS IT WHEN THEY THANKED ALL THEIR SPONSORS AT THE END OF THEIR FIGHTS.

that was really really annoying. there were a lot of technical difficulties too, but hopefully they'll iron all those kinks out in the future.

One change I'd like to see is the refs getting a little more aggressive when it comes to breaking up two guys who are just hugging in the ring while they catch a breath. If they're going for a hold, fine. If they're pussy-footing around and tapping each other's sides, they're just wasting time. It's only three rounds, so make them count.

they should just eliminate the concept of rounds... the "ultimate fighter" should be teh guy who can survive for 9 straight minutes of fighting if needs be. also, i really dig seeing the locks and reversals and shit, so if you break up the "hugging" earlier it would probably eliminate a lot of that.

I disagree. If they're going for a hold, they need to go for a hold. There's an obvious difference when it turns into a ground fight. Absolutely no relaxing there, just really intense grappling, blocking, and brutal fighting. Yeah, these guys taking a breather will eventually try and turn it into something, but quite simply there's too much time being wasted in doing so.
My opinion would be different if these were eight or nine round matches, but we're only talking three rounds here. In three rounds, I want to see some intense fighting.

I saw this show once, and was not impressed... I have seen a LOT of the dvd's from UFC and PRIDE because I used to work with a dude who fought MMA in Mass. The impression I got was that they are not as driven as the big events used to be. In the big pay per view things, they are competing for a large cash prize, in this show, what exactly do they win? I dunno... I saw a fight between liddell and a big black guy with a chain around his neck.... I was sitting there thinking liddell was going to wreck shit, because he always does... and let me tell you, the whole fight, it looked like he wasn't even trying. He hardly threw anything. Then, the black dude, got him on the ground, and liddells corner threw in the towel before anything even happened!!!! I got a feeling that it's either semi-fixed, or the fighters aren't willing to get pummelled just for a few bucks from some sponsors. Who knows.

live show last night, but was actually kinda boring. the first match had a great reversal at the end of the third round, which is what i like to see. the had an hour (or two?) long show of "best knockouts" before it which was cool, all killer no filler.

Missed it last night. Caught a little bit of Pride, but I wanted to see the Carolina/Green Bay game more.
Translation: I wanted to see Green Bay get beaten like a bunch of old grayhounds at the track.
