I don't know the general quality of Ford Australia, but over here they pretty much suck. The last car they sold that could actually hit 100,000 miles with minimal trips to your local service department was the third generation Escort...and that wasn't even a real Ford. That damn thing was a Mazda Protege.
Of course, this would not stop me from owning the new Cobra GT500. That thing is just impressive.

The last car they sold that could actually hit 100,000 miles with minimal trips to your local service department was the third generation Escort...and that wasn't even a real Ford. That damn thing was a Mazda Protege. Ahhh now i see.. my old car was a '89 EA Ford Falcon.. fucking ugly car. But over 400,000kms on the clock and it still ran a dream, never a problem. My new car.. a '95 EF Falcon has 120,000kms on the clock. 4 litre straight six, 4 speed auto. Not a problem with it, fucking mint. I've dropped some cash into it by buying 17" rims, sports suspension, new 2 1/2" exhaust, new extractors, airbox filter and wide mouth snorkel. Goes hard for a large sedan. In Australia you're either a Ford man or a Holden man.. Holden is a subsidiary of General Motors, but is a mish-mash of all kinds of parts. If you own a Ford Falcon or a Holden Commodore you're obliged to drag off at the traffic lights and hang shit on your rivals auto. The cobras, mustangs and shit like that arent really sold over here unless you import them but they've come up with GT/GT-P's, a fucking jet turbo 6 called the Typhoon, and sports V8's. So as far as it goes Ford has a really good name over here, thats why i was baffled by your remark about fords.

That's cool. Ford doesn't even sell a straight six over here. It's a shame. In-line engines are where it's at.
Jeep still makes a 4 liter I-6. The thing is a monster and practically bulletproof. Beause of those fucking Germans, though, Jeep is regressing their 4.0L's to 3.7L V6 engines. They're not bad, I suppose, but no way you're going to get the longevity from those like the 4.0L engines. Plus my old Cherokee was a torque demon. The new Liberty is just pbbbbbt!
GM is just starting to catch on with their straight 4, 5, and 6 cylinder engines. That new 3.5L I-5 they put in the Colorado's will blow the doors off the Vortec 4.3L V6 in a smaller truck all day long.
