I have been on a doom binge as of late. I came across this album while looking for a Reverend Bizarre purchase. Surprisingly this CD came in faster than the latter so I’m listening to it right now. Being a fan of My Dying Bride, it wasn’t hard for me to get into this. Plus the comparison will always be inevitable as they play epic doom death in the same vein. The difference is the additional female vocals to give a more gothic taste.
Songs mostly are plodding and sad. Very mellow too so instead of listening to the usual “Oh the world is on its last breath” epic doom or “Oh huggy Ive got the grooveh” stoner doom, Its more of the “Aaaaah it’s raining outside, I’m tired and I need a cup of coffee” listening trip
You get your moneys worth with songs averaging on the six minutes mark, but I need to mention the Expostulation which is a 2 minute satanic spoken word track over an apocalyptic keyboards. The 15 minute closing Death, Come Near Me, that is not only a great closing for this album but the song has very memorable melody thanks to the slow piano loop in the end. Ah suicide didn’t sound so beautiful
As closing I would just like to mention that their female vocalist needs to loose some of that fat
