After a brief albeit is fantastic collaboration with Mike Patton on Irony is a Dead Scene, The Dillinger Escape Plan (DEP) give us their 2nd full length album with new vocalist Greg Puciato.
All I can say is Miss Machine has more layers than an onion. Apart from the dogs balls track that is "Unretrofied" the album has kept me enthralled with its mix of hardcore, rock, thrash and electornica influences, all topped of with a nice dose of Schizophrenia.
With each listen I find a new hook, groove, vocal passage, or just weird time signature that gets me head banging along. Each song twists and turns in an unexpected direction; I liken the music to that of a building held together with silly putty. It should fall to pieces, but some how it all holds together, as it sways in a unpredictable hurricane.
Everything I have said can be excluded from "Unretrofied", which has to be DEP attempting a 3 chord radio friendly anthem, and like I mentioned, sticks out like dogs balls amongst the rest of the songs on the album.
Equal parts chaotic and calm, this album will have me listening for a long time to come.
A
(could have added the + if it weren't for Unretrofied. Admittedly its appearance on Smackdown vs Raw 2006's limited soundtrack, had me tired of it prior to purchasing the album. But even still the song is just uninspired)

I love Calculating Infinity, but I think I listened to Miss Machine twice and that was all I needed to tell me it was crap. Bleargh.
