They closed off Empire Street again this year for another AS220 fest. I forgot how fun Mahi Mahi shows are. You could be completely sober but you'll still be drunk when they're playing. There was a marching band that played Lightning Bolt. There was a parade of vegetables during Landed's set. Tiny Hawks slayed. Easy Action was pretty good. I spent a lot of money today.

The Weakerthans kicked ass. They even threw in two Propagandhi tunes.

They're the band I'm going to see. A little boring in the studio, but I bet they kick ass live.
Also, I just heard Direct Control for the first time tonight. I'm pleased to report they kick ass.

Just got back from Mind Eraser. Their set was disappointingly short, but it was intense. Plenty of people slammed into me. They also did a Siege cover. Their vocalist caught my attention the most because when he wasn't screaming his lines, he was facing the ground or the band looking kind of tired, but then he'd turn around and face the crowd screaming with the meanest look on his face. It ruled. Saw a few people I hadn't seen in a while too. Before the show, I stopped by the record shop. In addition to that Birdflesh CD I just posted in the Now Playing thread, I also picked up a few 7"s...Anal Cunt/Psycho split(broke my record for highest paid for a 7" at $13), Phobia/Skrupel split(also on red wax) and a 7" by this band called Sick of Talk...kind of an impulse buy, I had heard this was some good powerviolence revival. My instincts are telling me it can't be too bad since they named themselves after an Infest song...but I've been wrong before.
I also forgot to mention the first time that Trap Them's vocalist was Ryan McKenney formerly of Backstabbers Inc. I will definitely keep my eye on this band, they kicked ass.

I have no idea what the going price is on that A.C. split is, but that is one OLD EP. Nice find.

Man, that was an awesome show tonight. The whole thing only lasted two hours too, nice and quick. But I stayed an hour after talking to people. Just think...me not being an Internet fag all the time. So I saw the best Third Death set I've ever seen, two bands from way out of state, Dropdead's first show in over a year, two girls kissing each other during that set, got a Direct Control/Strung Up split LP, and some dude from Rat Byte gave me a free record. Saw tons of other people I knew too. Shows seem to be getting better and better, at least for me anyway.

Well check this out for pure thrashin' solid gold, I saw Testament, Onslaught and Xentrix a couple months ago at Bradford rio in the UK, so hardcore! And what celebrity should me and a friend run in to other than Herman Li from Dragonforce, a self-confessed Testament fan! Best gig of the year so far. Oh, I went to Download festival in Donnington and it was shit btw. It always is.

I've been wanting to see Testament play live for years and years now, but everytime they come around here I either have plans or forget about it.
Last Saturday I saw GWAR, The Red Chord, and Municipal Waste. There were a bunch of other bands, too, but I got there late. Good show.

Yeah, Testament put on a good show, they've acquired some sort of cult status in metal circles some how, probably coz' chuck billy's just a big hardcore thrash wolf! I'd liked to have seen them play with Dave Lombardo on the Gathering tour, but oh well, they were hardcore anyway.
Also saw Boltthrower, Dethroned and Descent live in London a while ago, the drumming for the latter was absolutely insane! Never seen anyone play that fast live before.

Shows I've seen since botching my old account here:
Oct. 22 - Das Oath matinee show(Mark McCoy formerly of Charles Bronson doing vocals), Mind Eraser, Ampere, Hulk Out, Imprint
Nov. 16 - Anal Cunt, Sexcrement, Throwing Shrapnel, Third Death, No Alligence. Anal Cunt sucked so bad at this show. Seth literally pulled up a chair and kept falling asleep. I pretty much lost all respect for them right there.
Nov. 21 - Converge, Some Girls, Modern Life Is War, Colin of Arabia in New London, Connecticut. Jock central. Modern Life Is War sucked and Some Girls is a snoozefest, but the other two bands were awesome. I feel kind of bad liking COA though, given their fanbase.
Nov. 24 - Bathtub Shitter, Abhorred, Id, Suffering Bastard. BATHTUB SHITTER!! I never thought I would see this band live they were fucking AMAZING, played all the greats from Lifetime Shitlist, rocking out to Fuck Hip Raper, Fireworks, and Escapism to Refresh in a cold, scummy warehouse was awesome! I was also impressed with Id. I was still working at 3 in the morning at the time and got home literally 20 minutes before I had to be at work.
Dec. 15 - GWAR, The Red Chord, Municipal Waste. I never thought I'd even go to Lupo's again, never mind partake in a circle pit there but the Waste was well worth it. The rest of the night was pretty unimpressive. People at work got a kick out of my stained red shirt the following morning.
Jan. 20 - The Low Budgets, All Those Opposed, I don't even know who the fuck else. This was my first show after quitting my job and going back to school again. I was stoked to be on a normal sleep schedule. Four of the five bands had a good crowd going. It was great talking to Joe Jack and Dandrew for a while who I've surely been harassing on the Dead Milkmen board for years. Hurt myself twice circle pitting during All Those Opposed, got hit in the nose and twisted my ankle jumping off a table. Still kept going. I'm a trooper, I guess.
Feb. 17 - A big punk show with tons of regional bands. Rat Byte's set was obviously the peak of the night. This band is so fucking good, Connecticut's finest for sure. Acid Reflux from New York ruled too. Also got to see Scapegoat for the first time and Mind Eraser again. Show went downhill real quickly after Rat Byte played, seemed like the energy just drained right out of the room. The headliner was Mouth Sewn Shut who's basically just Toxic Narcotic with a different drummer/bassist. Sounds exactly the same. I used to love Toxic Narcotic but they got lame to me and this band was pretty fucking bad. Left during the third song.
Feb. 24 - Ampere, Scapegoat, Soul Swallower, Waste Management, Helping Hand in Easthampton, MA. I drove almost two hours just to see Soul Swallower. I didn't even know these guys were still a band anymore, but I'm glad they are. Their 7" just kicks so much ass. I also had no idea this band was pretty much just Mind Eraser switched around(vocalist of this band/drummer from Mind Eraser used to do vocals for XfilesX too, HUGE bonus for me). Scapegoat's set was much more aggressive and they wrote a setlist this time. I don't really care for Ampere in the studio(hardcore emo) but they are cool live. Show ended just after 10 and I was home just after midnight.
Feb. 25 - Two shows. The first was Lightning Bolt. Obviously they ruled, this is no surprise. Then I went to another part of town(Providence) to see Trap Them. The two bands I saw play before them sucked so bad. The vocalist of Architect had X's tattooed on the back of his hands and made a speech in between songs something like "Who here's straight edge? I am. This guy is. This guy is. Guess what. He's not. He's not.(pointing to people in his band) Fuck you." He also said something about how we were a tough crowd and that they were never coming back and I basically said to myself "Good, your band fucking blows anyway." I was getting worried but Trap Them delivered. Such a great band.
Mar. 3 - Stations, Permanent Trip, Concrete Facelift, It Will End In Pure Horror, Praxis in Boston. I don't know why Praxis thought it would be a good idea to choose a band name that was already being used by guys involved in Primus and other Les Claypool projects. Their guitar player needed to ditch the Danelectro and get something that had some fucking tone. I basically went to this to see IWEIPH play a rare all ages show, I'd talked to the vocalist online a few times before and the guy seems to dig really good music. Concrete Facelift's set was so insane that I couldn't move during the next band's set, they played Possessed to Skate too. What a pit. I saw Stations about a year ago in Providence and they were pretty sloppy. They were much tighter this time. Show ended just after ten again and I was home around 11:30. Providence, take a hint and start your fucking shows earlier.
Basically right now I'm going to a Municipal Waste matinee show in Connecticut on Sunday and seeing Asshole Parade(!!!!) and the Holy Mountain on Wednesday.

You know what else rules? Not like I'll be going to this because it's across the country, but this is one HELL of a fest, I mean Despise You playing their first show ever with Chris Dodge on bass, what more could you want?

I would go to that show just to see Athiest, but thoroughly enjoy Ghensis Tron, Deceased, Dekapitator, and Lair Of The Minotaur.
And I didn't realize Coffin Texts got back together. Not that I really give a fuck as the only song I ever liked of theirs was a Black Sabbath cover. They just seemed like a stepping stone band for the musicians to move onto better things. They should go on tour with Jungle Rot and see if they can break some kind of world record for putting the most people to sleep at once.

Saw Kreator and Celtic Frost in Cardiff last night, Kreator fully owned over Frost obviously but both bands kicked ludicrous quantities of ass. Oh, and some chump thought it'd be funny to stage dive only for everyone to move out the so he fell on me and gave me a nose bleed and bruised my ribs as we fell over =[ Totally worth it though, I was fairly drunk at the time so didn't really notice.....I can feel it today though...meh
