Friday was hardcore/punk night with my friends in Straight to Hell headlining with short.fast.dead and a couple other bands I missed. That show ended early so we walked over to the Safari Lounge for the metal show (Nefarious and ?). I don't know who was playing when we got there (it wasn't Nefarious) but it was fairly boring generic black metal. I think we heard two songs that were each like 10 minutes long before we gave up on that.
Saturday, Lightning Bolt played a "secret" show at the Safari (yeah right, only 80 million people showed up). Holy fuck damn was that loud. It is so satisfying for me to observe a crowd going to see live music and then sticking their fingers in their ears for the entirety of the show, haha. If you haven't heard them, give 'em a shot sometime. A friend once described their sound as "kindermetal," like 2-3 second snippets of Slayer, Exodus, etc all jumbled together into a spastic stew. Good stuff.

Lightning Bolt played a show and I didn't know about it? Aw hell...not like I would have been able to get in to the Safari Lounge anyway.
I haven't been to a show since May. I've been working so much over the summer I haven't done a whole lot. D.R.I.'s playing in Hartford on Wednesday, but that's a bit of a stretch. I'm guessing the AS220's going to be packed on the 30th for this Warcry show, if they really do have a member of Tragedy. Also...what's with all the Scandinavian bands being booked there lately?

Anne and Ben from Armageddon Shop have been booking all those great shows at AS220 (Forward, Forca Macabra, Warcry, Phobia, Rattus, etc etc). They are big on Jap/Scandinavian hardcore. Ben is the guitarist of Dropdead, in case you weren't aware. They have really made AS220 the place to be lately.
Unfortunately I'll be out of town for that Warcry show. Straight to Hell is opening and they are a fucking great hardcore band (Brian from Dropdead on drums, Gorman from Advocate on guitar, Aaron from Ulcer/Paindriver/Agoraphobic Nosebleed on vocals).
BTW, anyone can get into the Safari. The shows are free so there is no one working the door. No bouncers cause the place is just a total shithole dive bar. ID to drink of course.

I already knew about the Dropdead ownership of Armageddon Shop. It's a place I've been meaning to go to for some time, but I don't drive myself, and I can't convince any of my friends to drive me up that way. Straight to Hell sounds great...fantastic lineup. I am a fan of both Dropdead and Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and I saw Advocate open for Burnt By The Sun last August, so I know how kick ass their live show is/was(didn't they break up?). However, they talked too much in between songs. A gig isn't really the kind of place where you rant.

Lamp, did you happen to catch Dropdead's "farewell" (for a year) show at Redrum friday? Holy shit, it was intense. Definite thrash zone in full effect.

Once again, I didn't even know it was happening. I had to work on Friday anyway, so I wouldn't have been able to go. Why is there a year's farewell?

The bass player, Devon, is going to teach in Japan for a year.

Does that mean the Dudley Boys are calling it quits for a year, as well?
That was my shitty, redneck wrestling joke for the day.

The GWAR double back to the bay 2 nights in May really wore me out. I caught the Melvins in S.F. and the punk voter thing with NOFX at U.C. Davis somewhere back there.
I've been able to catch some cool local shit every now and then. There are no real venues rather than businesses like coffee places and skate shops. Bands stop here between S.F. and Portland. The Secretions came up twice and played this little pizza place in the middle of the sticks until the employees had had enough plus some kids' bullshit. Catchy upbeat vulgar stuff. They're coming back. Berzerk came back in the spring, and I really love these kids live. Crazy metal inspired thrashy punk with chic vocals. They're playing the little teen place on the first.
The Vitamin X show kicked ass. These straight edgers from the Netherlands are some high energy dudes. Plus they were really cool, I couldn't imagine these guys getting in your face about anything. They showed up at work and I showed them the cave, crossing the lake in a fucking storm. They even called me a 45 year old tour guide in thier tour journal.
I almost forgot to mention American Waste. A local band that plays a ton of shows here. They are fast and dark sounding. A quickly thrown together Rudimetary Peni type sound. They're little C.D. is kind of good. I give these kids a lot of credit too.

Where is local to you, OneEye?
Last night I caught:
Raising Kubrick (MA grindy-death with chick vocals) Straight to Hell (RI's best hardcore since Dropdead) Four Horse (RI double bass loud "indie" stoner-ish rock)
Kylesa was headlining but I left before they went on. The other three bands were a fun time though. I'd never seen RK before, I thought they sounded good. STH were pretty hilarious between Aaron's trademark between song banter and the fact that Brian doesn't know any of the names of their songs and had to be reminded how a few of them go, haha. Four Horse seems like they would've went over better in '96, but they are really tight and really loud and I dig 'em.

If I'm not mistaken, One Eye lives around the San Fran area.
I've been on a huge stoner/doom kick as of recent...especially since I found Tundra Trash Radio.

Good shows always happen when I can't go to them. I remember seeing this on the local listings and was interested, and then I was like "Fuck, it's a Thursday". Where was it, AS220?

Yep, AS220, pretty much the only legit place in town to see a show these days. Note that I said "legit." You work late, Lamp? They say shows start at "9 sharp" but I didn't even leave my house until 9:30 and i stood around outside talking for a good half hour before the first band went on.

I usually work night shifts. I was at my place of work until like, 11:45 last night.
Speaking of work, I'm headed there now.

Stuff I found out about in Providence(or nearby) that I'll definetely be going to:
September 12th: Lightning Bolt at the Fleet Skating Center(or something like that...Scoots?) September 23rd: A Life Once Lost/The Red Chord/Norma Jean/God Forbid(I found out I have no school the next day...this is a go to.) October 29th: GWAR/Dying Fetus(Not a fan of either band, but I have friends who want to go, I've wanted to see GWAR's show, and Shevy suggested a KitF meeting at that show) November 15th: Slayer/Killswitch Engage/Mastodon(HOLY SHIT It's on a Monday but it starts at 7...I'm so going to that.)

This is true. Scoots, what are the possibilities you would be willing to drive to Worcester, Mass on a Friday for a GWAR show?
Skin Splitter, since you see every show in the first place, would you be interested in some GWAR/Dying Fetus?

I know I wouldn't be driving...I'd get to hitch a ride both ways. Heh heh, alright.
However, last night I had a dream that I had to walk home from somewhere far away in MA...not a good sign.

Lamp: yeah, that show is supposed to happen with LB. There are a horde of other bands I've never heard of playing too. I think LB is "headlining" at like 10pm. See them or die trying.
Shev: chances=fairly nil. I don't think I like "new" GWAR enough to want to see them in town, let alone in Wormtown.
