Uber-anything is the worst name ever. I actually like Flat Out Fucked but the word fuck is getting way overused by bands lately....

Uber-anything...worst name ever?
Well, he ripped off my name and went for Uberfuzz. I swear, sometimes I think this kid won't go with an idea unless it's his own.
Also, Shevy: When he suggested the name "At The Stake", it was after a Melvins song. I told him pretty firmly I thought that naming a band after a song was even gayer than a name with a swear in it.

Uberfuzz sounds like a spacy stoner rock band.

That name is ridiculously horrible. My sympathies...
Should've went with Teddy Bear Pecker Parade.

While that is better, reasoning with this kid is awfully hard. He wants to have generic metal song titles/lyrics and a generic name, and wants to write generic riffs and songs that have choruses and verses. Songs with choruses are so fucking lame.

The Ramones disagree.

Oh who am I kidding...I listen to songs with choruses too. I just think it helps when a song doesn't have one.

I would also like to use this for upcoming shows that interest me.
11/15/04 - Slayer/Killswitch Engage/Mastodon at Lupo's 12/9/04 - Los Straitjackets at the Call 12/18/04 - High on Fire at the Living Room...I haven't heard them yet, but I'm giving them a look to see if it's worth going to. Hey, that's what I did with Burnt By The Sun, and now I own everything they have out. 4/24/05 - Nile at the Palladium...could they be planning New England Hardcore/Metal Fest 2005 already?

wow... I didn't hear about that High on Fire show. I don't have the album but one of the guys in Armageddon has been listening to it a couple of times I've been in there, sounded pretty rad.

You should bring this guy to the board so we can all throw names at him that people will actually remember...like "Snazzypants McGuillicutty and the Miami Vice Throw Pillows Of Unholy Blasphemy", or "SMatMVTPoUB" for short.

they were much MUCH better last night. i was not impressed by that columbus show at all. too few people in too large a space. that show was INTERMINABLY long as well and i didnt' really care about anyone but LB (well, white mice too but i see them like once a week as it is).
ALL the bands last night were fucking shit-hot. easy action was one of the best bands i've seen in the last few years (ever?) even though the crowd didn't seem to know what to make of them. they are basically a straight up, thunderously loud ill bluesy rock band (think stooges, birthday party, flesheaters maybe for comparison). TIGHT. and john brannon on vocals (ex-laughing hyenas, ex-NEGATIVE fucking APPROACH) was completely amazing and commanding. this is the kind of band that would be playing in a dirty sex club in a david lynch film.

You know, speaking of all this, did Shevy ever see GWAR on Friday?

I saw a strange band lastnight called the Asskickers. Nor cal texas sounding hillbilly metal punk wierdness. Total Chaos was supposed to play at the little teen place but for some reason didn't show up so I went to the bar instead.
Far from what I would have ever considered my genre, I had heard about these guys and was surprised. Freaky cowboys singing songs about burning their workplace down after winning the lottery while wide eyed with no teeth made for a fun evening. Humorous geek politics mixed with redneck satire. And these fuckers could play. Great time, I'm going to have to look into more of their shit since I got loaded and split right away when they were done.

You know, speaking of all this, did Shevy ever see GWAR on Friday? No, although I was originally planning on going. For one thing, it's about a two and a half hour drive one way, and from previous experience, driving that distance at like one or two in the morning is a pain in the ass. Plus I drive a V8 Grand Cherokee that gets about 16 mpg and a V8 Avalanche that gets about 14.5 mpg. The gas alone would cost more than the show. On top of that, seeing GWAR live isn't what it used to be. I liked going when they turned their show into a story of sorts. Ever since the release of Violence Has Arrived they have decided to scrap the storyline and just use fake axes to cut the heads off of fake people and squirt fake blood in the crowd, but the only thing involving bodily fluids that goes well without a story is porn. Finally, the opening bands were All That Remains and Dying Fetus, both of which suck (although Dying Fetus used to be great). So paying $20 for one great band I've already seen a few times, two shit bands, and five hours worth of driving...all revolving around THE shittiest city in Mass (Worcester), didn't seem like a fun time. If you or Scoots were going to be there I would have went through the hassel of going, but just to see GWAR live it simply wasn't worth it.

Awwwww...
last night: 2 bands from out of town I don't know and could barely hear The Nightmare Continues I Destroyer Das Oath at the American Legion Hall
I totally remember now why so many people hate "mosh pits." See, usually in Providence the crowds tend to be older... People have put in their time in the scene and worked through their initial awkward phases. This show last night it seemed the average age was like 17. Guys were doing what I can only describe as novelty dances or just being aggressive jerks. Everyone was playing to the video cameras or looking to thier peers for frequent approval of their actions. All I heard anyone talking about was fashion. What the fuck ever.

On Friday my band played in a show at the American Legion in Exeter. It was our first show, we were messy, but it worked for me. The crowd was moshing pretty hard at one point. United Against kicked our asses(more friends from my school). Their mosh pit was awesome, such a good band. Even if they are street punk. I'm probably just biased because I know them though.
We came second to last in the battle(out of seven bands I believe).

Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon last night. Awesome.
I remember Mastodon's setlist to those interested.
1. Iron Tusk 2. March Of The Fire Ants 3. Where Strides The Behemoth 4. Mother Puncher 5. I Am Ahab 6. Megalodon 7. Blood and Thunder
They only had time for a half hour set. The show ended at 11, but I was still pretty fuckin' tired by the end of it.
