there is no prejudice, i simply don't like the who's studio recordings, with the exception of live at leeds. saying they were "a totally different animal from the studio recordings they released" doesn't really cut any ice with me. not everyone can see a band live. their recordings are a common ground that people of all ages/locations/situations will use to form an opinion. i honestly can't imagine this is worth you guys getting so uptight about. i'm not saying they are a "bad" or untalented band, they just don't do it for me. and as far as the topic at hand (metal 101, remember?), the who would be a footnote at best IN MY OPINION. your views of what "metal" is and mine are apparently different, so why not offer your own imaginary curriculum of what you think metal 101 should be, instead of just harping on the fact that i don't care for one particular band?

I'm not trying to argue with you about anything on a musical level. I just know what pushes your buttons.
By the way, you might want to get a new line. That's got to be at least the fourth time I've seen you use "puke kid".

Well, it being your "trademark" doesn't mean it's a good line, or that it's immune to getting stale. What do I give a fuck what insults you were using on various message boards? And when I was born, the Internet didn't even exist, so fuck off with that already. You're not my dad.

Actually, Lamp, I've been meaning to talk to you about that...
EDIT: In all seriousness, I don't want to talk about the "invention" of heavy metal because it was such a gradual transition from rock...but if we're throwing The Who's name around, why not mention The Kinks? Or Golden Earring? Hey, might as well mention the Stones since that's where Tho Who's guitar windmilling was derived from. Why not go back to the '40's when the electric guitar was invented?
Ever since I was a little kid in grade school, people have been trying to pinpoint an exact time when metal started. It's about as pointless as the eternal, "Who created the first blastbeat?"

yeah fuk that getting along shit.............
its beneath me. really the originators of heavy metal were late 60's british band gun who on their 1967 self titled debut album were responsible for the galloping gonad type of riff later popularized by imitators such as deep purple and judas priest. two tracks in particular stand out, 'race with the devil' and 'take off', the latter being an eleven minute opus that finishes with a coda blackmore surely copped for passages of in rock. gun were formed by the sadly neglected and long forgotten gurvitz brothers, adrian and paul. gun split after a second album titled, gunsight, the album cover of which was ripped off by motorhead on their ace of spades album. paul and adrian went on to form three man army, producing three fine albums before dissolving. their last shot at making the big time came with the formation of the baker-gurvitz army. in colllaboration with ex cream blind faith and airforce drummer ginger baker they turned out three albums of a fairly typical type of heavy british rock popular during the early to mid 70's. with the onslaught of punk the gurvitz brothers more or less abandoned their quest for heavy metal glory and have only recorded intermittedly in the years following. where are they now? who knows. both would be in their late 50's and if they are still alive it would be a fitting tribute to these heavy metal pioneers if someone took the time to interview them and accord them their rightful place in the heavy metal pantheon..................
all hail the gurvitz brothers, adrian and paul!
hail!!!!!!!!

What the hell is Fuse anyway? Is it a cable channel? My dad has DirecTV now...I'm sure I could find it somewhere on there. Is this some kind of metal network?

I get it on digital cable. I don't think it's a metal network, but an alternative to MTV. I'm not sure, but I think they may have once been a canadian network called much music, or perhaps a part of that. I'll have to do some research. It has a few metal orientated shows where this dominatrix looking chick runs around and interviews contemporary metal bands and shows videos. Uranium and a special feature every now and then. She has an advice show where she advises 14 year olds on the virtues of oral sex.
