Volkswagens have been shite since '98. Any car will be orders of magnitude more reliable with a competent owner; VW is no different. It's just that a competent owner will be relatively more pissed off at the execrable quality of late model Volkswagens than he would be with a pre-94ish one, and a fuckwit owner like your average undergraduate airhead girl whose daddy buys her a brand new Jetta will just be up shit creek. I've worked on a bunch of these, and at this point I refuse to even change the oil on a late model VW. And as for my Saturn, the reason I haven't posted all week is that my clutch exploded, and on this piece of.... marvelous engineering, you have to hoist the engine out the top to get at the clutch. I finally got it so I could drive it again this afternoon, after a week and a half of fighting tooth and nail. Pictures:  Trophy photo:  Do I really need a new clutch?    |

haven't done much major work since the last update, just nickel and diming it when i have a minute. replacing seals, tweaking this and that, small stuff mainly. did tackle some of the wiring but i'm not done with that yet. i need to make another parts order but i've been dragging my feet. also been spending a lot of time helping my bud with his car, which has been a resident of my garage for the past two weeks:  '57 oval window bug. it's pretty sweet, the blue in person is grayer than it looks in this photo, it's a really nice color. |
