Damn, you had to remind me that I missed MDC. I had just started a new job and was short on cash.
I did see Nomeansno in a little bar in downtown Sacramento lastnight. They were very good. I've been waiting to see them for a long time. They seriously kick ass for a bunch of old Canadian fuckers.
Unfortunately, I got off to a late start, and missed Victim's Family. Fuck! Victim's Family opened up for them and I didn't even know and showed up late. I was mildly irritated that the dude I called the night before had no clue.
These Northern Ca. shows seem to be going up at the last minute as I had trouble finding current dates listed. I thought S.F. and Berkeley would be too far to go on a worknight and found out about the Sac show a week before it happened. They play tonight at the Phoenix in Petaluma, (another show I didn't know about until I got a flyer.) They mentioned having an unsuccessful tour, which is truly fucked up, because they are a band that no one should miss out on. I'm very tired, I got home at 3:00 and had 3 hours of restless sleep before I worked on the lake all day today. It was totally worth it. This small but roomy bar wasn't packed, so there was room to just walk up to the side of the semicircle stage that extended out to where some dancing was.
Since Nomeansno's song are written around a bunch of crazy bass lines, their live foundation is so fucking solid. They really rocked the place as the bass sounded as if it was about to crush that little stage. They way they build up in their songs to such dynamic and frenetic peaks is just incredible. This was broken by a few pauses with some one liner bits, and they kept thanking Victim's Family by referring to them by some band name they seemed to make up on the spot and saying let's hear it for our opening band. They played several of the classics, two or three off their latest, added two more for an encore plus Bored of the U.S.A. I'm really glad they toured again, even if they haven't released anything new in a long time.

we're actually having a party at our house on the 29th since we're not inviting many friends to the "wedding" (seriously it's just us signing a paper in front of a justice of the peace and then guests are coming for a big cookout etc, no dancing, tuxes, recieiving lines, any of that bullshit). i know most of our friends don't want to schmooze with our families though so i saved them the embarrassment and basically just invited them all for day 2.
"honeymoon" will begin on monday, we're just going down to newport for a few days. we've been living together for 10 years, honeymoons and shit seems kinda pointless.
